A new very large gas rig has appeared on the horizon in the Morecambe Bay Gas Field directly opposite Blackpool. Does anyone know any more about it?

Steam packet Ferry and North Pier

The Steam Packet co. ferry leaving from Heysham heading for Warrenpoint in Northern Ireland. A bit hazy but it was taken from about 15 miles away in Blackpool. To the left of the ferry you can make out one of the Wind Tubines in the sea off Barrow.

Sunny Blackpool – Sunday 5th Oct. 08

After all the rain yesterday its a very clear and warm sunny day in Blackpool. There is little haze so there are clear views round the coast from the Prom. All these pictures were taken with a 400 zoom so they look closer than they are. Barrow is over twenty miles away accross Morecambe Bay.

Barrow in Furness

part of the wind farm in the sea near Barrow. Apparently each one of these is as high as Blackpool tower but to the naked eye they are not easy to spot from Blackpool.

further east around the coast the lake district peaks can clearly be seen accross Morecambe Bay.

looking south from here, over the top of the North Pier can be seen the gas platform close to Southport.

And further round we can just pick out the Snowdon Range in Noth Wales. these must be about 60 or 70 miles away. again this is taken with the zoom and what you see is just the bit that sticks up above the horizon.
